What to Have Ready Before the Movers Arrive

Ways to prepare before the movers arrive

Moving tips from Bridgetown Moving

By the time our team of professional movers arrive to transport your items to your new home, we know that you have been planning and preparing for your move for weeks or even months. It is our goal to make every moving day go by as quickly as possible but there are some steps you can take yourself to ensure that move day goes by without a hitch.

Large Furniture Items and Appliances

Unplug all appliances, especially washers and other items that connect to the water line.

Unmount or unscrew anything that is bolted into drywall.

Cribs, bunk beds, and trampolines need to be disassembled and reassembled by yourself for safety reasons. Luckily, the movers will be able to take care of the basic assembling of other furniture items.

Remove lampshades from their stands and make sure they are packed securely in their own box.

What We Can’t Move

Make sure not to box up any hazardous materials, since the movers are unable to transport those due to regulations. If you do have a box that contains any liquids or chemicals, such as cleaning supplies, please make sure to place them separately from the boxes that will be placed into our truck to avoid confusion.

Remove batteries from all electronics.

Separately pack important documents, jewelry, sentimental photographs, and medications, since these type of items should be moved personally.

Organization

Clearly mark all boxes so that movers know which ones to treat with extra care and where to place them in the new location. This will make unpacking a breeze.

We love your pets but they make lousy movers. Fence off your four legged friends in a closed area so there will be no tripping over paws.

Clear the walkway or driveway area outside of your main door so that the movers can easily transport your items without having to constantly watch their feet.

Clear Communication

Since moving day can be overwhelming, it is a good idea to sit down a day or two before your move and write down any special instructions or list items that need special care. Then, when your team arrives, go over your list with the team foreman, who will ensure these steps are followed to the best of the crew’s ability. Our movers are used to working fast once they get started, so if any particular instructions are not obvious beforehand, your items might not be moved the way you had planned.

The most important thing to remember is that an organized move is a quick move. If you have any questions about what should be ready before the movers arrive, send us a quick email at info@bridgetownmoving.com or give us a call at (503)664-4477.
